Perhaps the most impacting purpose, though, is the one Kelly penciled in himself - an impromptu date recently at the driving range of ND's Warren Golf Order with a group of Irish football players.

“They were talking big about how good of golfers they were, and I called them on it,” Kelly said of the likes of Braxston Grotto, Mike Golic Jr., Chris Stewart, Kyle Rudolph and Jake Golic.

“We were there about an hour hitting golf balls, laughing at each other about how bad our golf swings were, and me being under obligation that we didn't have good golf swings.”

You see, Kelly does connect the dots between a unexceptional golf game and progress on the football field.

“That's why I had to ride (Jake) Golic a mean bit,” Kelly said of the sophomore backup tight end. “I told him he was a petite too good.”
