The driver of a risqu GMC Sierra pickup truck smashed into the rear of a full-sized school bus just before 8 a.m., according to RCMP. The full front end of the truck was smashed, while the bus sustained minimal damage.

The collision caused adolescent injuries to one of eight elementary school students on the bus, Law said. "The student was transported to Stanton Territorial Infirmary for treatment," she said.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.

Upon arriving at the scene, RCMP suspected the driver had been drinking and she was "already out of the conveyance," Law said.

The driver was arrested and charges were laid. She is to appear in territorial court on July 6.

Run by Paramount Coach Lines, the bus was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of 53 Lane and 52 Avenue, in front of Bruno's Pizza, according to Law.

RCMP and the Yellowknife fire office's emergency medical services and hazardous material vehicle were called to the prospect socialize, she said.
