The important notes of "Pomp and Circumstance" led Baraboo High
School seniors through one last circuit of the school gym Friday
Cimmerian dark, across the stage where they received their diplomas and, at
last, out the school's front doors one final time.
Approximately 218 seniors and GED students shape up the class of
2010, which graduated Friday in front of an audience jam-packed
with friends, one's nearest and teachers.
Class speaker Jonathan Cole said school up this point was only
"the prelude" of the students' lives.
"Other people have influenced you and have made you the way you
are," Cole said. "Now it's your over to take your pencil and write
chapter one."
Salutatorian Graham Greve brought a sobering note to the
observance, listing some of the specific problems he said the class
of 2010 will face, including the faltering international economy,
environmental problems and "29 ongoing wars and 22,000 atomic
warheads."
"I don't mean to cause alarm, but even our sun is dying," he
said.
