The Laconia and Lake Village Irrigate Works corporation held its first meeting, Aug. 2, at the office of W. L. Melcher & Co. "A large number of the solid commerce-men and citizens of Laconia and Lake Village were in attendance. The different sources and methods which have been proposed to furnish a fitting supply of water for both villages were earnestly discussed." A committee was appointed to draft bylaws.

The Hoary Mountain Express north in the afternoon of Aug. 7 "was made up of sixteen cars, all loaded to the steps and drawn by two locomotives.
