Holy Redeemer graduates 191 students Citizens Voice

Spotless Redeemer graduate Michael Kowalek is an avid reader, but he wasn't always.

His prematurely struggles with dyslexia made reading a chore for years, he said.

"I had always looked at reading like it was unworkable for me to do, but something I had to do," he said.

Kowalek, who graduated with 190 peers Wednesday at a observance in Scandlon Gymnasium at King's College, was diagnosed with dyslexia at 8 years old. He attended the DePaul School for Children with Dyslexia in Scranton until seventh NZ hack.

"When I got there, I really couldn't read at all," he said.

Even after he learned, he still didn't watch the task as fun. He credits his turnabout to Jennifer Yale, his teacher at Wilkes-Barre Academy who had a passion for the written discussion.

"You could tell how much she loved reading," he said. "It muddle through it interesting."

His favorite book is "Green Hills of Africa" by Ernest Hemingway, a logbook of the author's safari to Africa in the 1930s. He likes the author's descriptive category, which he finds easy to read, he said.
