As if kids contemporary back to school in August wasn't cause enough for celebration, parents across Illinois have a sales-tax destroy to cheer.

State officials have sharply reduced the sales tax that retailers must injunction on back-to-school items from Aug. 6 to Aug. 15. From coats and jackets to rubber pants, from protractors to paste sticks, the tax owed during the "celebration" will be 1.25 percent, down from 6.25 percent.

"Working families with kids prevalent back to school, we want to give them a break," said Rep. Keith Farnham, an Elgin Democrat who sponsored the act that is awaiting Gov. Pat Quinn's OK. "And we hope to stimulate sales, thereby creating point."

The state typically charges 6.25 percent on retail sales, but returns 1.25 percent to municipal government agencies. The August holiday temporarily eliminates the state lump.

The downside is the sales tax holiday could cost the state $40 million to $60 million while lawmakers be prolonged to struggle to close a $13 billion deficit.

Which comapanies would donate school supplies?

I am doing a scheme in which I collect school supplies for children in Africa.
Do you know any of (probably worldwide) companies that would donate pencils, pens, etc.?

You can try companies like Walmart, Staples, Assignment Max, and Target...but there will be a simple grant process and it will depend on what their grant giving initiative is for that year. There is usually a austere application process, and then a waiting period. You can find the application right on their websites.

You may actually have more success calling limited small businesses and asking for small donations from many different places. Or consider doing a penny excursion and then using the money to purchase supplies.

The economy is tough right now, but there are still those willing to give. It is just going to depend on how maintaining you can be.

Most of the noteworthy companies are already donating locally. With economics so bad it will be difficult to find any willing to give abroad.

where can I find cute notebooks and the best school supplies?

walmart is the most adroitly. usually kids shop there so the notbooks have characters of shows or whatever. school supplies are best here because there quality and they have to be cheaper than the other stores , becaseu i cantankerous, IT IS WALMART! get them before school starts and theyll be cheaper.

You should have been foreordained a supplies list, if not, the school will give her one when she starts. If in doubt, just ask her teacher at the end of the day - they're sure to be on hand.
As a year 5 teacher (fourth correct), I would expect my kids to come with a decent bag - big enough to carry their PE kit, a couple of books (reading book, dictionary and any homework), a adding machine, dictionary, pencil case with pencil crayons, ruler, pencils, rubber, pencil sharpener. Some schools like kids to produce a fountain pen for handwriting but don't spend your money until you've checked it's needed.

Don't stress though! No kid will get into trouble on their first day for not having the right things and PE kit is never needed on the first day!
